Forest Services closes part of Mount Jefferson Wilderness due to fire activity | Public Spaces
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
From the Willamette National Forest
Due to increased fire activity near Pyramid Butte, an area closure for the northern section of the Mount Jefferson Wilderness is being issued by the Willamette and Mount Hood National Forests.
The closure will be for the entire area of the Mount Jefferson Wilderness north of the South Breitenbush Trail (# 3375) and Jefferson Park.
The closure area includes a section of the Pacific Crest Trail that heads north from Jefferson Park. Bear Point Trail (#3342), Crown lake Trail (#3362), and Roaring Creek Trail (#3361) will also be closed. Jefferson Park and the South Breitenbush Trail will remain open.
A shuttle service is being provided for hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail between the South Breitenbush Trailhead and Triangle Lake Equestrian Camp.
The shuttle will operate intermittently from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day while the closure remains in effect.
The closure for Kinney Arm of Detroit Lake and dispersed camping around Kinney arm remains in effect due to public safety concerns during helicopter operations.
Forest visitors should expect to encounter light to moderate smoke. Visitors may also experience increased traffic on forest roads.
